Geography
Curriculum: My Father’s World Exploring Countries and Cultures
Classes for 2nd-4th and 5th/6th

History
Curriculum: My Father’s World Exploration to 1850’s
Classes for 2nd-4th and 5th/6th
This is the second history class being offered 2nd grade up. This will cover the great explorers, the colonization of America, the California Gold rush, and how to connect America's history with the rest of the world.
Language Arts 3rd/4th A
Curriculum: The Courage of Sarah Noble, Shiloh, and Charlotte's Web
Language Arts 3rd/4th B
Curriculum: Pippi Longstocking, The Whipping Boy, and Charlotte's Web
Language Arts 5th/6th A
Curriculum: Amos Fortune Free Man, The Twenty-One Balloons, My Side of the Mountain, and Adam of the Road
Language Arts 5th/6th B
Curriculum: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Where the Red Fern Grows, Carry On Mr. Bowditch, and Julie of the Wolves
All four language arts classes listed above are literature-based language arts classes. Vocabulary, spelling, writing assignments, comprehension and discussion questions will all come from the book being read. Some grammar will also be included.
Parents will need to choose a grammar program that will focus more heavily on grammar rules and usage. We recommend Easy Grammar, however, parents may use any program they choose.
If your child has already read the book, don’t worry. Recreational reading is not the same as education reading and your child is sure to see more this time through than before. They probably watch the same movie again, or put a puzzle together a second time. Re-reading a book in this context should be fine.
Jr. Book Club
Curriculum: TBA
Classes for 2nd/3rd
Get ready to embark on a literary adventure! In this Book Club we will enjoy a great new book every two weeks. Through great children's literature, they will be introduced to language arts including vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension.
Science
Currciulum: Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology I: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day
Classes for 2nd-4th and 5th-7th
Students will conduct experiments in class and create a zoology notebook. This book will begin exploring the dynamics of flight and animal classification, understanding why the design we see in these incredible creatures points us to our Creator God. Then, get ready for the exciting adventure of learning about birds. Your children will learn how to attract various bird species to your yard and identify them by looking at their special physical characteristics, diverse nests, and interesting domestic practices. They will also learn the anatomy and the glorious design that enables birds to do remarkable things. After becoming amateur ornithologists, your children will explore the world of chiropterology, which is the study of bats.
Curriculum: Apologia Exploring Creation with Botony
Classes for 2nd-4th and 5th-7th
Students will conduct experiments in class that go along with the work they are completing each week at home. This book begins with a lesson on the nature of botany and the process of classifying plants. It then discusses the development of plants from seeds, the reproduction processes in plants, the way plants make their food, and how plants get their water and nutrients and distribute them throughout the body of the plant. As students study these topics, they also learn about many different kinds of plants in Creation and where these plants belong in the plant classification system.
*2nd Graders may be placed in core subject classes (see above), or may be placed in the 1st/2nd grade unit study class (see below).
1st/2nd Grade Students
We will be using My Father's World 1st grade curriculum to reinforce reading skills, social studies, basic math concepts, language arts, and Bible using hands on activities and some classroom instruction. If you are using MFW 1st grade this class will go right along with what you are learning at home. If you are using a different curriculum, your child will still learn things applicable to first grade work and the class will reinforce typical 1st grade material that your child is probably covering at home. In the afternoon you will choose from a variety of electives for your child.
Kindergarten
In the mornings we offer a class for kindergarteners that will reinforce what is being taught at home at the kindergarten level. In the afternoons you will choose for your child either electives, or they can have a quiet/rest time and play ground time.

Electives being offered in the 2008/2009 school year are PE, cooking, ballet, drawing, creativity workshop, math skills & games, music, scrapbooking, strategy games, hand sewing, fun science 1, fun science 2, brain busters, survival skills, boys club, girls club, and fun Spanish.
